TREK Development Leads the Way in Transforming Sustainability in Sports under the auspices of UEFA (ADRIONΟSPORTS)

At TREK Development we take pride in our instrumental role in shaping and driving forward
an emblematic project designed to pioneer the adoption of Circular Economy (CE) principles
in sports facilities and events across the Adriatic and Ionian (ADRION) area. From crafting the
initial vision to conceptualising the project’s framework, coordinating the successful
proposal bid, and overseeing its setup and horizontal coordination, TREK has been at the
forefront of this important initiative.
This ambitious three year, 1.6 mEUR project, titled “Improving Sustainability of Sports
Facilities and Events through Circular Economy – ADRIONOSPORTS”, aims to transform the
sustainability of the sports sector in the ADRION area by integrating the concept and
practices of CE in sports facilities and events.
TREK’s instrumental role in the shaping of the project has also secured the strong support
and commitment of UEFA, whose Football Sustainability Strategy 2030 serves as a key pillar
of the project. UEFA’s collaboration amplifies ADRIONOSPORTS’ impact through its extensive
network of National Football Associations and stakeholders. This achievement underscores
TREK’s ability to align regional projects with global sustainability goals.
With TREK as Technical Coordinator, ADRIONOSPORTS brings together nine forward-thinking
partners from seven ADRION countries:

  9. Sports company Radnički Kragujevac (Serbia) – Associated Partner

Together, these partners are uniting their expertise to achieve the ambitious goals of
ADRIONOSPORTS, which include:

  1. Promoting Circular Economy in Sports: Inspiring a sector-wide shift to sustainability
    practices.
  2. Creating Tailored Tools: Equipping sports facilities with resources to drive CE
    initiatives.
  3. Empowering Stakeholders: Building sports sector and institutional stakeholders’
    capacities and skills to exploit innovative tools for climate-neutral solutions.
    At the core of ADRIONOSPORTS is TREK’s vast expertise in the methodological and technical
    coordination of CE projects, valorising on its extensive past experience. From contributing to
    the development of strategies and Action Plans, to methodologically supporting partners in
    the development and implementation of innovative pilot actions and to partaking in the
    design and delivery of dynamic capacity-building and training initiatives on CE for sports
    sector and institutional stakeholders, TREK is committed to providing solutions that strongly
    promote sustainability in sports.

    sports sector in the ADRION area an example of sustainability innovation.
