TREK Development is proud to announce its pivotal role in a transformative and socially conscious initiative for the Municipality of Fyli, Attica, Greece. The FYLI_NZES project (“Near-Zero Energy Schools in the Municipality of Fyli”) is set to improve energy efficiency in 39 public school buildings of all educational levels in the municipality through targeted energy efficiency interventions and introduction of energy generated from renewable sources, with a total investment size of €18,3 million. Through the FYLI_NZES project, TREK aims to showcase the transformative character of its activities by addressing socioeconomic disparities, energy poverty and social exclusion in the Municipality of Fyli, mobilising private financing for the realisation of the project’s investment programme, and establishing a permanent framework in the municipality to design, implement and monitor similar far-reaching programmes in the future. With over 30 years of experience in visualising, coordinating and implementing EU-funded projects and in project development support, especially related to the LIFE CET (Clean Energy Transition) and ELENA (European Local ENergy Assistance) Facility programmes, TREK brings unparallelled expertise to FYLI_NZES. Under the project, the two partners will formulate a robust blueprint for designing, maturing and implementing energy investment pipelines. This framework will ensure the sustainability, replicability and transferability of these initiatives to a broader range of municipal, regional and governmental bodies across the EU. A key aspect of the project will be active stakeholder engagement, leveraging their insights and expertise to accelerate investments while at the same time enhancing their capacity in energy efficiency, and design, management and monitoring of large-scale energy investment programmes.

TREK Development Joins Forces with the Municipality of Fyli for a Groundbreaking Energy-Efficiency Initiative

Through the FYLI_NZES project, TREK aims to showcase the transformative character of its activities by addressing socioeconomic disparities, energy poverty and social exclusion in the Municipality of Fyli, mobilizing private financing for the realization of the project’s investment programme, and establishing a permanent framework in the municipality to design, implement and monitor similar far-reaching programmes in the future.

The main objectives of FYLI_NZES include:

  1. Creating a sustainable energy project pipeline: A permanent dedicated organisational structure, the Project Development Unit, will be established in the Municipality of Fyli, to oversee and safeguard the development and implementation of the FYLI_NZES bold energy investment agenda.
  2. Mobilising private funding: By bundling public infrastructure assets, the project will attract private financing through Energy Performance Contracting, thus acting as model for other municipal, regional, and central government entities across Greece and the EU.
  3. Ensuring replicability and transferability: The project will develop a comprehensive roadmap and toolkit to ensure that the innovative approaches and solutions developed by FYLI_NZES can be seamlessly adapted and implemented by other entities, both nationally and across Europe.
  4. Ensuring long-term sustainability: By contributing to energy efficiency, renewable energy production and reduced energy consumption and emissions, FYLI_NZES aligns with the Municipality of Fyli’s longstanding commitment to green initiatives. The project also advances key national and EU sustainability goals, including those set out in the European Green Deal and the National Plan for Nearly-Zero Energy Buildings.

Over its 3-year duration, FYLI_NZES is expected to deliver impressive and tangible outcomes related to energy investments, consumption and efficiency:

  1. Investments in Sustainable Energy: The project will trigger a noteworthy 18,3 MEUR in investments propelling sustainable energy use.
  2. Renewable Energy Production: The project’s renewable energy investments will produce 3.000 MWh of renewable energy per year.
  3. Primary Energy Savings: The project will achieve a significant reduction of 4 GWh/year in primary energy consumption.
  4. GHG Emission Reduction: The project will reduce GHG emissions by an impressive 7.000 tons of CO2 equivalent per year.
  5. Retrofitting Public Buildings: The project will upgrade 39 public school buildings with a total surface area of 45.000 m2.

The FYLI_NZES project is co-financed by the LIFE Clean Energy Transition (CET) Programme under the topic “2023-CET-PDA-Project Development Assistance for sustainable energy investments”, Grant Agreement no. 101167022.
