TREK in partnership with UEFA on a 2,9MEUR project for Youth Sports

UEFA and TREK, along with other stakeholders seek to increase the employability of Youth newcomers in the Market arena and especially in the sports sector, by developing new professionals and reducing the mismatch of skills. The project will enhance key transferable skills and market-related knowledge corresponding to new/niche professions. It will also create a support network for the development of sports professionals, involving the quadruple helix stakeholders (government, society, education/academia, private sector) of the region.

In the MED region Youth unemployment is twice as high as adult unemployment. In the Southern Mediterranean, young people are three times more likely to be out of a job (ILO,2017). Contrarily, prominent sectors, like the sports industry, face challenges finding the right skills for their rising needs. Responding to this challenge, Skills4Sports aims to increase the employability of NEETs by tackling the skills gap in the sports sector. It will create new curricula in sports-related professions including both athletics-related ones (coaches, physicians, etc.) and business oriented ones (merchandising, marketing, administration, event management). This analysis based on skills gap will result in electronic tools (e-learning platform, mobile app and social-media app) addressed to youth and to key sport stakeholders ensuring the skills’ mismatch.

The project, so called “Skills4sport” will increase capacities of the available workforce to better jobs that offer even more opportunities, expecting more than 200 job contracts thanks to the adjustment of skills’ mismatch between offer and demand. The condition of transnationality of the sport industry will contribute to pursue careers across borders, including international events, mobility of employees and multicultural working environment with the support of stakeholders involved in the Strategic Alliance for Skills4Sports.

The project is 2,9MEUR with duration of 30 months.
