TREK Consulting has been awarded the assignment to analyze and evaluate the wind energy potential in the mountainous area of the Municipality of Komotini, Rodopi Region, GRE, in order to promote the feasibility for the deployment of a wind park and assess its technical and economic characteristics. Towards this goal TREK will examine numerous funding opportunities from international and national funding sources and relative donors.
Greece has a great potential in renewable energy resources (RES). For this reason the development and implementation of proper strategies, policies and initiatives aiming at the development of RES are on top of political agendas and priorities at national but also local and regional level. TREK experience both in sustainable regional development, a well as in the identification of donor and funding opportunities across Europe facilitates the above policies and initiatives. The particular project is a technical oriented job, in terms of ensuring the wind potential of the specific region and at the same time an economic study in terms of project financial viability.
In order to measure the wind energy potential, TREK shall measure for a 6-months period the speed and direction of wind with the use of proper equipment. In particular, TREK shall set-up and monitor the operation of the measuring system, as well as perform analyses on the measurements. On the basis of the findings, TREK shall conduct a study, in which the feasibility of the development of a wind park in the specific area shall be assessed and the viability of the whole venture shall be evaluated, including fund raising issues.
