On the 1 st January 2005 TREK Consulting undertook an 18-month assignment to provide Strategic Advice and Technical Support to the Ministry for the identification and examination of the factors influencing the development of Northern Greece and the Balkans, and the creation of functional-technical specifications for an Integrated Information System which will monitor and support development strategy in this region.
Specifically, the activities include an analysis and description of all economic and social factors and indices of the three regions of northern Greece , the Thessaloniki urban region, and South-Eastern Europe, in an integrated information system which will provide automated information about economic, diplomatic and social data.
- The first stage of the project includes a study of the factors influencing the economic and social development of the three regions of northern Greece , such as local inflation, unemployment, income, GDP, development infrastructure projects, and other initiatives in the social sector as well as the expected impact on the lives of citizens. At the same time, the factors making up the life cycle of a development project and the corresponding effects on the citizen will be collated, for instance, the construction of a road axis and the corresponding improvements in everyday life, an initiative against unemployment and the corresponding potential decrease of local unemployment, and so on.
- In the second stage, all the data related to the development of Thessaloniki , the three regions of northern Greece and the Balkan region will be sorted and grouped in an integrated and unified platform, creating the Integrated Information System - Portal for the monitoring regional development.
This tool will be accessible to all interested parties via the internet, and it is expected to act as a source of information for investment opportunities in the region, as a node of information exchange between citizens, between the State and citizens, and between the State and enterprises, as well as a reference point regarding the current economic and social situation in northern Greece.
