Konstantinos (Dinos) Papapolyzos
The Man Behind TREK Development’s 30-Year Startup Journey
A Physicist, Electrical Engineer, and above all, an Entrepreneur, leading the company toward new achievements
“Become who you are capable of becoming.”
This is how Dinos Papapolyzos welcomes us, despite admitting from the outset that he is not particularly fond of catchy quotes or excessive words. A man of science, he prefers action over rhetoric.
Holding a B.Sc. in Physics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, a B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering, and an M.Sc. in Telecommunications Engineering from New York University (NYU), along with postgraduate studies in specialized Economics from Columbia University and Bocconi Business School, Papapolyzos has been leading TREK Development for three decades. Most recently, he guided the company through its successful listing on the Athens Stock Exchange.
Founded together with his brother Thomas from their small apartment in Ilisia, Athens, TREK began as a Technology Consulting firm. Over the years, the company has accumulated numerous business distinctions, including pioneering the transmission and management of video-SMS services in the mid-1990s, achieving a European first in the live presentation of national election results, introducing micro-credit and micro-finance structures to Europe in 2012, and delivering Greece’s first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project in the field of energy efficiency.
Despite its success and strong financial performance, Papapolyzos envisioned a broader future for TREK. In recent years, the company has transformed from a pure consulting firm into a dual-focused organization.
Its traditional consulting activities evolved into a Professional Services division, offering project development, blended financing, project financing, and management services for medium and large-scale infrastructure projects, particularly in energy, energy efficiency, and utility-critical infrastructure sectors.
At the same time, TREK expanded its second strategic pillar—Infrastructure—into a vertically integrated business focused on Energy, Climate, and Water projects, incorporating advanced technologies such as smart metering systems and Smart City applications.
“I enjoy taking initiatives and being accountable for the responsibilities I undertake,” says Papapolyzos.
“That is why I could never remain solely within the consulting business, where you advise and support others but do not lead the execution yourself. I prefer to sit in the driver’s seat and lead initiatives together with my team, while assuming full responsibility for the outcome.”
This renewed corporate structure and entrepreneurial vision led TREK to join the Alternative Market of Euronext Athens last November, opening a new chapter in its growth journey.
With strong revenue growth and profitability in 2025—doubling its earnings compared to the previous year—the company’s market capitalization has already more than doubled, reaching approximately €25 million. TREK has also earned the confidence of five major institutional investors and several prominent figures from the Greek business community who have become shareholders.
“Listing on the stock exchange was a very important milestone for TREK,” Papapolyzos notes. “However, I always focus on tomorrow rather than yesterday. After all, no one is interested in what you accomplished yesterday; they are interested in what you will achieve tomorrow.”
He continues with confidence:
“At TREK, we firmly believe that our best days are still ahead of us. Growth will come through both organic expansion and strategic acquisitions. We continue to attract exceptional professionals across both Professional Services and Infrastructure, strengthening an already outstanding team that forms the core of our future development.
At the same time, we are actively evaluating acquisition opportunities in Greece and abroad, while further strengthening our presence in Central Europe through our Munich-based subsidiary, which has been operating successfully for the past eight years. TREK’s robust financial position supports these ambitions. With zero debt, strong cash reserves, and an A+ banking credit profile, we possess substantial financial firepower—always within the appropriate scale and context.”
Thirty years of operation could suggest a mature, perhaps even conservative company. Yet TREK continues to demonstrate remarkable entrepreneurial energy and a relentless appetite for innovation. Its founder still views the company as a startup—constantly exploring new, high-potential business opportunities with greater confidence and determination.
As Papapolyzos concludes:
“In Dutch, the word ‘TREK’ signifies a long and demanding, yet rewarding journey. That is precisely how we see the road ahead for many years to come.”
