TREK to assess, mature and develop a series of Energy Initiatives for the Region of Crete, along with the assistance of the European Investment Bank (EiB). Following international tender, TREK has been assigned by the Regional Authority of Crete to “make happen” some 45MEUR, up to 60MEUR projects in the Energy, Renewables and Energy efficiency Market within the next 2 years. The initiative consists of 3 pillars, namely:
I. Modernization of Street lighting infrastructure with LED technology of the Region and most of the Municipalities in Crete.
II. Retrofitting of large public buildings, mainly Regional & University Hospitals, focusing on energy efficiency
III. Development of RES (P/V) Infrastructure through Energy Communities creation, for the benefit of local communities and Farm/Agri Associations (TOEB, GOEB). Advisory services is at 601.500 EUR, financed by the European Investment Bank and the Region of Crete.
The Region of Crete is a unique, diverse full of resources land, but for energy!
Local population, along with millions of tourists visiting the island and the need to operate numerous diverse industries ranging form agricultural sector to high tech industries require plenty and un-interrupted energy resourses, whilst energy efficiency is a top priority for energy savings and CO2 emission reductions.
TREK has been assigned the tasks to identify and measure those needs in energy and assess specific plan for Energy efficiency and utilization of Reneable Energy sources at the disposal of the local community and Industry.
Specifically, TREK to measure the existing Energy Infrastructure and consumption in Street Lighting across the Region’s juristinction (Regional Authority) and most of the Municipalities in the Island. Moreover, to assess and measure Hospitals energy Infrastructure, propose a new model for Energy efficiency, and finally to develop the Master Plan for RES to be utilized by local Energy Communities in the field of Agri/Farm secror (water pumping and irrigation) and mature all necessary activities for building a modern RES INFRA.
Further, TREK to design a detailed Financial model and propose the best-fit sources of financing, on both Street Lighting, Hospitals Energy new Infrastructure and the RES. It is expected that the projects will be at the range of 45-60 MEUR with time span of 24 months.
Within the advisory services to be offered by TREK is the preparation of TORs and tender organization of the construction phase on all the Infrastructure projects, as well as the TEchnical assistance to the Region of Crete for the awards, contracts and financial closure of all works.
This Professional Services contract is unique by means of its holistic approach towards maturing a large scale Energy Initiative, comprising of Technical, Administrative, Legal, Financial, Managerial and contractual skills-set.
